I’m John Ulsh—husband, father, survivor, and believer in purpose through pain. After a devastating car accident changed the course of my life, I discovered that true strength isn’t about what you can lift—it’s about what you can endure and rise from. Today, I share my journey not to dwell on the past, but to help others realize the power within their own stories.

My Story

On December 1, 2007, everything changed.

I was driving home with my wife and two kids after a swim meet when a split-second collision on Route 422 nearly took my life. We were hit head-on by a drunk driver going over 100 mph. The crash shattered my body—breaking my femurs, pelvis, ribs, arms, and more. But it didn’t break me.

I spent weeks in a coma and months in the hospital, facing surgeries, setbacks, and uncertainty. Doctors didn’t think I’d walk again. Some weren’t sure I’d survive. But I held onto one thing: purpose. I knew that if I was still here, there had to be a reason.

Recovery was brutal. I had to relearn how to sit up, how to feed myself, how to walk. I lost the life I had—but I gained something far greater: perspective. I realized I wasn’t spared to go back to who I was. I was called to become someone new.

Years later, after countless conversations with people walking through their own valleys, I realized my story wasn’t mine to keep. I felt a deep calling to put it all into words—raw, real, and full of hope. That’s when Unbreakable was born.

Unbreakable is more than a story about survival. It’s a guide for anyone navigating pain, doubt, or loss. It’s filled with hard-won wisdom, faith-fueled encouragement, and practical tools for rising above what tries to take you out.
